Fibre Reinforced Polymer

Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP)

Carbon and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) products are exceptionally strong, versatile, non-corrosive, economical and the solution of choice in a growing number of applications including walls, beams, columns, slabs, chimneys, silos, tanks, large & small diameter pipes, culverts, tunnels, piles, utility poles and blast protection. FRP products are very flexible prior to curing allowing them to be easily applied to surfaces of varying shapes and sizes. Carbon and glass FRPs can be used on a wide range of materials including concrete, steel, wood, timber and masonry. Once cured FRPs are 3-4 times stronger than steel! Building Solutions Brisbane specializes in the repair and strengthening of infrastructures using FRP products and has continuously completed innovative, award winning projects to improve the strength and safety of structure

Building Solutions Brisbane is your complete source for structural repair, strengthening and restoration with over 20 years of experience in the field.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) has over the past two decades become an increasingly recognized material used in structural engineering applications. Implemented with increasing effectiveness since their introduction in the aero-space industry in the early 1960’s, composite materials offer a number of distinctive advantages for structural strengthening.

Retrofitting of concrete structures has become an increasingly dominant use of the material in structural engineering applications. Such uses include increasing the load capacity of existing structures (such as existing parking garages) that were designed to tolerate far lower service loads, seismic retrofitting and repair of damaged concrete structures. Retrofitting with CFRP in many instances can be a cost effective method of structural concrete strengthening. CFRP is also widely used to strengthen concrete structures that have lost reinforcing steel mass due to corrosion and concrete deterioration.

Applications

Applications where carbon fiber reinforcement can be used are:

E

To increase load capacities.

E

To strengthen damaged structural components.

E

To compensate for construction or design defects.

E

To allow modification or removal of existing structural elements such as columns, walls & slabs.

E

Seismic strengthening of columns & walls.

Carbon fiber reinforcements have several distinct advantages over traditional types of reinforcement

Listed below are some of its advantages:

E

Lightweight

E

Non-corrosive

E

Alkali resistant

E

Easy to handle and install

E

Low aesthetic impact

E

Flexible and can be wrapped around complex shapes

E

Acid resistant

E

Very high-strength & high modulus of elasticity

E

Outstanding fatigue resistance

It must be noted, that carbon fiber reinforcement is not a “one product cure all”. In some cases, traditional reinforcing methods may be more appropriate.

It is always preferred to have our structural engineer design any reinforcing system that may require the use of carbon fiber components. We work closely with Quakewrap , Sika and BASF to source appropriate materials and resources.
